audiography: Theme: B-Sides and Rarities: "I'm a huge fan of sixties civil rights singer and composer Nina Simone. Her breathy, sexy, passionate voice seduces me like none other, making her one of my favourite vocalists ever. I am also a big fan of Brecht, namely his fantastic play Die Dreigroschenoper (The Threepenny Opera).

You can imagine my reaction when I found this track. It's Nina Simone singing one of my favourite songs from Die Dreigroschenoper, Jenny's wicked and completely frightening ballad 'Pirate Jenny', a song about her dream to leave her job as a cleaning lady in a hotel and become a pirate and then coming back and destroying the town she works in and killing everyone in it. Yeah. Nina Simone puts this amazingly terrifying and sexual spin on it, it's worth a listen, if just for how she says 'that'll learn ya' at 5:21. Seriously, download it.

'Pirate Jenny' by Nina Simone."

Ella Fitzgerald

New Page 1: "Big Band Serenade Episode 6....Ella Fitzgerald
'The First Lady of Song,' Ella Fitzgerald was arguably the finest feamal jazz singer of all time. Blessed with a beautiful voice and a wide range, Fitzgerald could outswing anyone, was a brilliant scat singer, and had near-perfect elocution. There is simply no one in her class. A remote broadcast from Rossland Ballroom.

RetroBabe .............: "treat , if an album encapsulates what I love about music then 'Dusty in Memphis' is one such album.
Look, if you don't own it just go Buy it !, these two tracks are NOT enough !
It rightly deserves it's place in list of the top ten greatest albums of all time.
So two tracks that also head a short series of White/Blue Eyed/Country Soul Sounds @ RetroBabe!, as promised a while back ....

Blossom Dearie has become a favorite of mine. Something about her voice is just so appealing. It was such a nice surprise to find she had recorded for Schoolhouse Rock."
